Gospel Enjoyment Ministries’ Saint Dru, Announces 2 New Releases

With all that’s going on today, while overcoming our personal storms we should give God the Glory. Gospel rap music artist, Saint Dru does just that as he introduces his third full album, that is “Glory to God” releasing February 2, 2022.

Andrew Smith, also known as Saint Dru, is the Lead Minister at Gospel Enjoyment Ministries. GEM is a non-profit organization ministry with a mission to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ and making music to promote the word of God to all.  From a young age, Saint Dru discovered his interest in music. Both his love for God and enthusiasm for rap led him to incorporate the Word of God with his work for the genre.

Since he made the move to become a recording Gospel artist, Saint Dru has released albums and tracks, including Everything for You – 1st single (2016), Born Again – 1st full album (2017), Baby Steps – EP (2018), Salvation – 2nd full album (2019), Love Chapter 2 – EP & King David– single (2020).

Glory to God (2022) is an album that extols God the creator of all things. Even when men fell, God gave his only Son to correct man’s error. He is a God that delivers from all evil, provides for his people, and takes care of the essentials every single time. He deserves praise, acknowledgement, and worship. It’s evident that this album is about glorifying God with all-inclusive works of fire lyrics, praising God for all that he has done, and telling of his goodness.

The 1st 4 tracks kick off with Praise and worship in the attempt to encapsulate praise and worship into rap form. Saint Dru delivered on “Hallelujah “and on giving God the “highest praise” to tickle the ear of Saint Dru’s #1 listener - God. Then there is “Worship”, together with one of Gospel music’s finest voices Drea Randle. The 5th track on the Album is a testimony of Saint Dru proclaiming the acts of Jesus in his life & deliverance. After that, “Way maker” as Saint Dru doubles down on declaring God’s good works. Way maker accompanies Jazzarus and C.O.R.D as they all captivate with their spirit-filled lyrics and bless the mic. Joined with good chemistry by Jesse Campbell on “Favor”. Jesse’s singing really brings flavor, shines through, and compliments the track nicely.

The “Glory to God” album showcases the talent of producer Genuine Life. Genuine life, a beat making savant, produced all the tracks on the “Glory to God” album. Songs like Heaven, Wisdom, destined for greatness really show his expertise and diversity. “Tamron the first” beat producer collabs with Genuine life as David & Tiffany Spencer joins in on the track “Glory to God” to finalize the playlist.

Saint Dru will also be releasing his fourth full album in the summer of 2022, namely “Who Am I”.

2021 New Music

Saint Dru is entering 2021 with excitement and some of his best songs yet, not allowing the unpredictability of 2020 to slow down the work that is being accomplished through his musical ministry. Last year saw the release of his second full-length album, Salvation, which continued to push his influence beyond his native Chicago area, sparking increased interest in the young rapper’s adept blend of hip-hop, trap, and gospel.

February 9 will see the release of the new EP titled Love Chapter 2, which includes the title track, a sequel to “Love” (from Dru’s 2018 EP Baby Steps). If the title Baby Steps referred to Dru’s steady upward climb as an artist, then Love Chapter 2 confirms the rapper’s consistency and his clarity of vision and purpose. Alongside his distinct rapping style, his compassion, and his theology convictions, Dru’s music has also always been paired with great collaborators; for “Chapter 2,” that comes in the form of Scott Simms, (who also joins Dru on this EP’s other track, “IS 41.10”). The sequel is the ruminative, spacious counterpart to the more energetic, hard-hitting original, displaying Dru’s range for bringing his distinct rhymes and rhythms to a wide array of different hip-hop and gospel styles and sounds.

Simms’ smooth tenor and emotionally resonant melodies are a perfect contrast to Dru’s lyrical flow, slowing down Dru’s veracious spitfire to let the meanings of these two powerful tracks really sink in. “IS 41.10” (which is based directly on Isaiah chapter 41, verse 10) might be Dru’s most beautiful song to date, diving into the depths of God’s love, strength, and righteousness as displayed in the titular verse. The chorus’s plea, “Don’t be discouraged,” comes through a genuinely encouraging track that highlights Dru’s dependence on and love for God’s Word, as it seeps into all his music.

This brief EP is just a small taste of what Saint Dru has planned for 2021. On March 1, the EP will be followed up by a standalone single titled “King David,” which builds upon his darker, trap-inspired earlier work. With lyrics and beats that can stand up to the work of Lecrae, KB, and Tedashii, “King David” is bound to become a fan favorite. Listeners will not be able to help themselves from chanting along with the infectious chorus: “Chasing after the heart of God like King David.”

Meet Saint Dru of Gospel Enjoyment Ministries in Westside

The style of the genre grew on me. As I got older, I decided that I wanted to write lyrics serving the Lord, aiming to integrate Christianity with my love for rap. My first entrepreneurial service to the world was something I called “Mixtape Ministry”, founded back in 2008.
